  • The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a statement on the alleged abduction of Dennis Itumbi, which is reported to have taken place on Thursday, December 23.

In a statement signed by NPS spokesperson, Bruno Shioso, and dated Friday, December 24, NPS states that it has launched investigations into the matter after the incident was reported to police.

The police urged the public to desist from speculating on circumstances surrounding the incident after allies of the Deputy President William Ruto claimed that the abduction was orchestrated by police officers.

“A report of alleged abduction of Mr Dennis Itumbi was reported at Thindigua police post vide OB10/23/12/2021 at 1540hrs.

“Police have since launched an investigation with a view to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. We appeal to members of the public to be patient during the investigation and should, therefore, desist from speculation,” read the statement.

Additionally, the police have called on members of the public with information regarding the incident to provide the police with the same.

“We, therefore, appeal to the members of the public who have information regarding the incident to volunteer and report to any police station or through the hotline numbers 999,112 or 0800 722 203.”

The statement by the police comes hours after the family of the Ruto-ally, issued a statement confirming that that Itumbi had been found after he was beaten by his abductors.

According to Itumbi’s brother, the digital strategist claimed that he was abducted by the police after he was whisked away into a white car by three unknown men at Thindigua along Kiambu Road.

“My brother has been badly beaten. We thank God that he is alive. On his own account, he was arrested by police and beaten and tortured. Please pray for his recovery. Thank you for your many prayers and support,” David Itumbi stated.

This was echoed by the allies of DP who further alleged that Itumbi was abducted because of his close relationship with Ruto. In his statement, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa expressed his criticism over the response of the police to the situation.

“Itumbi is a resilient and gallant soldier of the Hustler Nation. IG Mutyambai and CS Matiang’i know that as you prepare your PR statements today,” he stated.
