Omanyala, who holds the African record in 100m of 9.77 seconds, broke the national record which has stood since 2005.

Omanyala also broke the stadium’s record by breaking Iranian Hassan Taftian’s fastest time run of 6.68.

“I had fun. It’s a great experience. Though when I started to pick speed the race was over.

“I take it as training as I build towards the outdoor season. My target now is to run 6.40 seconds before the World Indoor Championships. I have more races and six weeks to improve on the time,” Omanyala stated.

Omanyala had earlier noted that he would be using the indoor races to improve on his movement off the blocks.

The 60-metre African record is 6.45 seconds held by Ghanaian Leonard Myles-Mills while Christian Cole from the United States holds the world record of 6.34 seconds

Omanyala will be competing at the Mondeville Meeting on February 9 and the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais in Paris on February 17.

Other races he is setting his eye on include the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia slated for March 18-20 and the World Athletics Championships Oregon 2022 in Eugene, the USA from July 15-24.
