In a post on his official social media account, Havi claimed that Mwendwa was kidnapped by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Havi faulted the DCI for taking Mwendwa into custody and not levelling any charges against him by close of business Friday, November 26.
The LSK President also disclosed that Mwendwa was being held at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road for unknown reasons and called on the sleuths’ boss George Kinoti to reign in on his juniors.
“FKF President Nick Mwendwa is not under arrest. He has been kidnapped and is being detained without charge at the DCI Headquarters. The police cannot seize someone who the Court has freed for want of a charge. This egregious conduct by George Kinoti should be condemned,” his statement read.
Sources privy to the arrest told kenyagist.com that Mwendwa was taken to the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road for grilling but the reason for his arrest was not disclosed publicly.
However, the source intimated that Mwendwa’s arrest was in relation to an ongoing probe on misuse of taxpayers money and abuse of office at the FKF.
The arrest came just a day after the state withdrew the case against him, with the court order that a cash bail of Ksh4 million he had paid be refunded immediately.
The Prosecution had been granted seven days to prefer charges against the embattled FKF boss but when the matter came for mention virtually, it requested to close the file.
“We seek to close the file as we proceed with investigations at our own pace before we prefer charges against him,” the prosecution said.
Following the new development, Senior Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu allowed the state’s request to close the miscellaneous file.
His team was also disbanded by Sports Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohammed, who formed a caretaker committee to run the football affairs in the country for the next six months.
