  • Daily Nation editor, Bernard Mwinzi, has been appointed to the board of directors of the newly created Kenya Tissue and Transplant Authority.

Consequently, the editor took to social media to express his gratitude for his appointment, adding that the authority will streamline the health care sector, in particular, the transplant of human organs.

“Happy to serve Kenyans in a new role as a board member of the Kenya Tissue and Transplant Authority, established by the President this month to enhance access and ethical use of human cells, tissues and organs and the safety, biosafety and wellbeing of donors and recipients,” he stated.

The announcement by Kagwe comes days after President Uhuru Kenyatta formed the authority to take over the Kenya National Blood Transfusion department.

Kenya Tissue and Transplant Authority was also mandated to register facilities that deal with the transplant of human organs.

In his statement, Uhuru lauded the move aimed at bettering healthcare services in the country.

“The authority will inspect hospitals periodically for examination of the quality of transplantation and the follow-up medical care to persons who have undergone transplantation and persons from whom organs are removed.

“A person who immediately before the commencement of this order was an employee of the government serving in the Department of Kenya National Blood Transfusion, shall at the commencement of this order serve as a member of staff of the authority,” he stated.

Mwinzi joins a long list of journalists who have landed plum government jobs in recent years.

On July 30, Citizen TV anchor Trevor Ombija was appointed as an Honorary Wildlife Warden alongside former NTV news anchor, Jane Ngoiri.

They two will serve for a period of three years.
