Mwai Kibaki's Photo With Relatives During Christmas Stirs Social Media

According to a recent photo circulating online, the former retired president, Mwai Kibaki is seen seated beside his relatives at their rural home in a very humbling setting.

Some Kenyans on social media were surprised that his siblings lived a simple life despite their brother having served as a powerful figure in government for a long time.

In the other case, Kenya’s third  President and former Othaya Member of Parliament has been described by many pundits as “the gentleman of Kenyan politics.”

Kibaki was sworn in on a wheelchair on December 30, 2002, following a car crash on the campaign trail and was re-elected for the second term until December 2012.

In 1963 Kibaki was an Assistant Minister for Finance and chairman of the Economic Planning Commission.

In 1966 he was appointed Minister for Commerce and Industry and in 1969, he was the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, as well doubling up as Vice-President.

After Jomo Kenyatta’s death in 1978, Kibaki was appointed Finance Minister.

Nonetheless, Kibaki is best remembered for having given the country its long-awaited 2010 constitution.

It is reported that under his tenure, he spearheaded the country on a path of economic recovery.

At his time at the helm, it is alleged that the country went on to witness a seven percent growth rate before the infamous 2007 post-election violence.

Moreso, it was during his time as president that  Free Basic Education was introduced.
