  • The puzzle of who killed Margret Muchemi, a resident of Njiru in Kasarani Sub-County, continues to unravel after the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered her mobile phone.

The DCI recovered Muchemi’s phone hidden inside a Wines & Spirits outlet in Umoja, allegedly owned by Charles Oluenyi, the main suspect in the murder case.

“The recovery made following intelligence leads further indicts the suspect and is envisaged to strengthen DCI’s case against him. Meanwhile, mention of the case is slated for February 17th, under Miscellaneous Application No. 74/2020,†said the DCI.

Oluenyi was arrested on January 27 after threatening to commit suicide by jumping from the top of a storey building during his dramatic arrest in Nairobi’s Keyole estate.

He had been on the run since January 22, before being cornered in the house where detectives said he had threatened to jump from the fifth floor of the apartment.

Police stated that Muchemi had invited the suspect to her house in an attempt to iron out their differences as theirs was a strained relationship.

Muchemi’s househelp told the police that the suspect came to the house, at which point he asked to be given time alone to sort out his issues.

“A report by the two house helps of the deceased narrated how their boss, upon receiving her visitor (the suspect) around 8am, had given them time off, saying that the ex-boyfriend wanted some privacy as they addressed their stalemate,†the DCI said in a statement.

Reports by the police had established that the deceased was tied to the bed before the house was torched.

“Later on, in the afternoon, the house went up in flames and even after efforts to put out the fire, nothing was salvaged not even the deceased,” a report by the DCI stated.

A postmortem report conducted by pathologists later revealed that the woman died from excessive bleeding after the murder suspect slit her throat before setting her ablaze.
