A 24-year-old woman identified as Winfred Nduku, on Saturday night, May 2, is said to have stabbed to death her two children, aged 2 and 6, at her house in Kayole, Nairobi before attempting suicide.

Speaking to kenyagist.com, a police officer based at the Kayole Police Station confirmed the tragic incident, adding that Nduku was recuperating at Mama Lucy Hospital.

The sad incident was reported,y triggered by an altercation between Nduku and her mother who she lives with.

“She was seated right there playing on her phone when I asked her to first tend to the children and saw to it that they at least eat something, then she could get back to her phone.

“She kept on playing with her phone. I threw a cup of water at her and repeated my initial statement. She then threatened that she could kill her children and grabbed a knife and did it,” Nduku’s mother tearfully narrated.

The mother of two also tried to stab her own mother but could only manage to inflict some cuts on her right hand as they struggled.

Nduku then stabbed herself in the stomach in a bid to end her life as well but was not successful as she was saved by residents who took her to hospital.

In an eerily similar incident on April 11, a court clerk stationed at the Karatina Law Courts (Naomi Wanjiku) from Kioru village in Kirinyaga County reportedly killed her husband (Charles Murimi) and 13-year-old daughter (Vallerie Njeri) in a chilling attack.

Speaking to the media, members of her family claimed that she set upon her husband and daughter in the dead of the night using an axe.

She then went over to her son’s (Felix Njine) house, still armed with the axe, and threatened to kill every member of the family.

Njine was lucky enough to disarm her, before calling for help from the neighbours who rushed to the scene and were met by lifeless bodies of father and daughter.

Wanjiku escaped and was found hiding in a thicket, a few days later.

She was arrested following a tip from a villager who saw her hiding in a nearby bush close to her home, raising the alarm and informing the police.

“We are pursuing the clerk so that we can prefer murder charges against her,” he stated at the time.

The late Murimi worked as a manager at a local private milk firm, while his daughter was a Standard Eight pupil.

Winfred Nduku’s son and daughter. She stabbed them to death on May 2, 2020.
