  • The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Friday, November 11, summoned former National Lands Commission (NLC) chairman Mohammed Swazuri.

Swazuri together with his former colleagues at the commission was urged to record statements regarding land worth Ksh2.4 billion reportedly grabbed from the Moi International Airport in Mombasa during his tenure.

“Yes, I can confirm that the former chairman together with the former commissioners has been summoned by the EACC this morning,” a source at EACC told Kenyans.co.ke.

The parties were ordered to appear at the EACC’s Lower Coast Region offices in Mombasa.

Ten parcels of land worth Ksh2.4 billion grabbed from Moi International Airport in Mombasa were reported to be at the centre of the scandal.

The parcels include part of the airport runway, a United Nations support base, a Kenyan military base and its watchtower.

According to the source at EACC, the officials will be grilled on a Ksh984 million that was illegally paid to individuals and companies as compensation for land acquired by the NLC for the construction of the standard gauge railway and the Dongo-Kundu/Kipevu road.

NLC was alleged to have paid millions to a gas company, the current registered owner of all the parcels of the airport land.

EACC will interrogate the ex-official between November 14-18, seeking clarity on the matter.

Swazuri is expected to appear before the commission on Monday, November 14, at 8:30 am.

Other officials will be grilled at 10:30 on the same day.
