  • A Mombasa-based mechanic has become an internet sensation after branding his own self-assembled car with colours and symbols of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a party associated with Deputy President William Samoei Ruto.

The mechanic identified only as Saidi alias ‘Kama Kawa’ amazed social media users after a video of him riding the convertible vehicle circulated on various social media platforms.

In the video posted by a Twitter user named Omari WK on Monday, January 24, Saidi was filmed driving the car past the Elim Evangelistic Church in Makupa, Mombasa County.

After the video was posted on social media, various residents of Mombasa narrated little-known details of the mechanic famed for his outstanding expertise in repairing fossil fuel engines.

Timbeti Shaban disclosed that Saida was a mechanic who specialises in the repair of Tuk-tuks (three-wheeled locomotives) and generators, a job he has been doing since leaving primary school.

“He is called  Saidi ‘Kama kawa’, a very good mechanic of motorcycles, tuk-tuk, and generators. He is very talented and did not make it past standard four,” Timbeti Shaban stated.

From the images, Saidi’s convertible car, which resembles a golf cart, bears a number plate Hustler Nation on both sides.

Additionally, a picture of Deputy President William Ruto is branded at the back of the car alongside a text reading invented by ‘Kama Kawa’.

A section of users also tagged politicians allied to the UDA party urging them to take notice of the creativity of the Mombasa-based mechanic.

Other social media users who were also amazed by Saidi’s work asked the government and well-wishers to nurture and help develop the talent of the UDA enthusiast.

Since embarking on the campaign trail, followers of Ruto have occasionally expressed their love for the DP and the UDA party through various inventions.

While touring Nyamira County in November 2021, Ruto gifted a couple Ksh100,000 after they named their hotel Bottom Up in line with his proposed economic model.

“I am going to help you with Ksh100,000 so that you can sort yourself out. Give me the money (Ruto to his aide) so that we can help these people grow their hotel,” Ruto stated.
