Members of the Kiambu County Assembly involved in a fight on March 21, 2019 Daily Nation
Chaos engulfed the Makueni County Assembly after two members of the house exchanged blows that left one of them hospitalised.
The fist fight involved Wiper nominated MCA Urbanus Wambua alias councilor Kana and his Kasikeu counterpart Julius Monari Tangai.
The nominated member was seriously hurt in the incident and had to be rushed to a private hospital in Wote town.
The two are said to have differed when Tangai criticised the area Women Representative Rose Museo for questioning why the Nominated MCA’s had been kicked out of a retreat held at the Panafric hotel in Nairobi.
‚ÄúI only stood to respond to claims that Museo had no authority to address matters assembly only to find myself cornered and getting rained blows by elected members led by Tangai. They really beat me up especially on my left hand which I was using to defend myself,‚ÄĚ Wambua stated.
According to one of the members who spoke to The Standard, the fight is alleged to have been fueled by the 2022 ambitions with the sides supporting the current Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and the faction supporting Kalonzo Musyoka clashing.
‚ÄúThis is purely Kalonzo-Kibwana feud. Nominated MCAs from the Wiper¬†and those allied to the party leader Kalonzo Musyoka are getting subjected to discrimination and frustrations,‚ÄĚ the MCA claimed.
Francis Mutuku, Makueni Wiper chairperson who is the immediate former majority leader led a group of the MCAs in calling for the arrest of the persons who were involved in the fracas.
The House Speaker denied knowledge of the fight stating that the entire thing had been stage-managed to ruin the county assembly’s reputation.
