The government has introduced extreme measures to curb overspeeding on the new highway days after a series of accidents.
In a statement by Transport CS James Macharia, the government banned matatus and all PSVs that carry more than seven passengers.
The directive will be on a temporary basis awaiting proper measures – some of which the operator has already effected.
In an Interview with Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, July 6, Moja Expressway General Manager of Corporate Affairs, Zhang Jin, revealed that they were introducing speed guns along the road to curb overspeeding which has been blamed for the numerous accidents.
He stated that the speed guns would help them identify motorists who defy the speed limits that have been erected.
Additionally, it was revealed that they would add more bumps and rumble strips to slow down drivers approaching the toll stations.
‘We have displayed the design speed limit of 80km/h along the 27.1 km route from Mlolongo to Westlands. We, therefore, urge the public to stay safe and heed to the speed limits for their safety and convenience. Additionally, we are also working to install speed guns to mitigate overspeeding which is a challenge along the Expressway.
“We are in the process of erecting more rumble strips at the exit points and introducing more speed bumps to control the speed, especially at the Toll Stations,” he stated.
