  • A man claiming to be the late President Emilio Mwai Kibaki’s son wants a share of his Ksh150 billion empire.

Jacob Ochola, in an interview with KTN News, stated that he wants what is owed to him as the first son of the late President. He explained that he was made aware of his father at the age of 21 years and the two have since shared special moments together.

According to Ochola, his mother remarried when he was a toddler and that is why his surname is from the Luo community. He stated that after the death of his foster father, his mother informed him that the deceased was not his biological father.

Ochola’s mother arranged a meeting between him and Mwai Kibaki and that is how he got to meet the late president. However, he noted that this was not the first time he was meeting the former president as the two had met at Karen Country Club where his adoptive father was a member and so was Kibaki.

“I was born on July 22, 1960, in Kaloleni, Nairobi. I grew up knowing I was Luo. I came to know that I was not a Luo when I turned 21 years.

“A year after the person I knew to be my father died, my mom disclosed to me that the person who died was not my biological father. She also told me that she was going to talk to my father because he wanted to see me and she did this after a month or so. This is when I had the privilege to meet the former president,” Ochola narrated.

“I must state here that the former president was a very common person to me. My adopted father was a member of the Karen Country Club and so was the late president and we frequented the place. The late president is someone I knew all my life.”

Ochola stated that when former First Lady, Lucy Kibaki, passed on, he was present at her burial. He noted that he visited Mzee Kibaki after and he was appreciative of his efforts.

“When my late stepmother passed on, I was at the Consolata Shrine and I met daddy and he was very grateful that I went there and attended the funeral service,” he noted.

Ochola stated that after Lucy Kibaki’s burial, he met with his father and the late president assured him that he will get what he is entitled to as his first son.

“After then, I met daddy several times at the Nyari office number seven and I had discussions with him. He assured me that he was going to make sure that I got my share of what I’m entitled to as a person.

“I trusted my father because I’ve always trusted him. So, someone who is going to ask where I have been all this time, there has been a lot going on. I have also gone to three law firms to ensure that I get the recognition that I deserve,” he added.

In his quest to seek an audience with his father and the extended family when Mzee was ailing, Ochola made a trip to Kibaki’s Othaya home and met with his sister, who she referred to as his aunt. However, the elderly woman informed him that she could not help him very much.

“I’ve been home three times and I met my aunt. The only living aunt that I have now told me she could not help me because she can also not access daddy. She was very welcoming but her hands were tired.

“In short, Mzee was a person I interacted with and not only in private but even in public,” he narrated.

According to Ochola, when Kibaki was Vice President, he would visit him at a hotel in Mombasa where he worked as the manager.

He recalled that after he married his first wife, Mzee also visited them and got to meet his grandson who was only 2 months old.

Ochola stated that his wife fell sick and was admitted to a Nairobi hospital and Mzee Kibaki was a frequent visitor to check up on her.

He stated that his silence and decision to stay away from the public eye was because he had been asked by the late president to respect him when they were introduced as father and son in 1982.

Ochola noted that he had promised to keep his relationship with his father private and away from the public sphere until now when he wants to be allocated what he believes rightfully belongs to him.

The family of Kenya’s third president is arguably one of the richest in the country and has quietly accumulated wealth across various industries for a period of more than five decades.

Their vast wealth amounts to billions, emerging from business interests in real estate, agriculture, and shares in blue-chip companies.
