Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has addressed reports that he was on his way flying to Nairobi when he decided to turn back to avoid attending the Jubilee Senate Parliamentary Group meeting by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, May 11, at State House, Nairobi.

During an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, May 12, the Jubilee senator termed the reports as false revealing that he was in his home county during the entire period.

“That is propaganda. I understand there were choppers stationed all over the country but I was in Nandi busy planting trees while taking advantage of the rains and I am currently in Nandi,” he affirmed.

He further refuted additional reports that he was among the senators whose names had been signed as being present during the meeting.

The Nandi Senator maintained that the list of leaders present as claimed by Senator Irung’u Kang’ata was falsified as no one had seen it.

He added that the procedure for removing Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen was not legal urging his colleagues, “let us follow the law and colleagues who want to bring legal changes should follow the law.”

New anchor Sam Gituku further questioned the senator on whether he was worried about losing his seat as chairman of the Senate Justice and Legal Affairs Committee to which he stated that there were no impending changes in the foreseeable future.

Cherargai stated that as members of the Jubilee party, they were in the frontline of pushing the president’s agenda through Parliament and the current situation was avoidable.

In a separate interview, Cherargai advised the president to fire all of Deputy President William Ruto’s allies at once so that he could focus on dealing with national issues.

“There is no need to fire one person from the PSC and then another in the Senate tomorrow. I advise the president to do it all at once so that he can go back to fixing the country,” he stated.

The Senator added that the changes were all in preparation for 2022 succession politics.
