In a statement released on Wednesday, August 24, Kenya Power announced the appointment of Ringera to the board in accordance with the company’s Memorandum and Articles of Association.
“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Justice (Rtd) Aaron Ringera as non-executive Director of the company,” reads the statement in part.
Ringera (72) has a rich background in Kenya’s public service where he has served in various capacities. He is a retired judge of the Court of Appeal. He also served as the director of the Kenya Anti-Corruption Authority (KACA) between 1999 and 2001.
In 2001, Ringera was forced to resign following a court ruling that the authority was unconstitutional. Nonetheless, he was reinstated to the position by then President Mwai Kibaki after the formation of the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC) in 2004.
Ringera’s Commission
Among the highlights of Ringera’s career is the Ringera Report which was designed as a radical surgery to the rampant corruption in the country.
The former jury was behind a team that was tasked with scrutinizing the judiciary to weed out corrupt elements. The report recommended the sacking of over 100 judges and magistrates drawn from various courts over corruption allegations.
KACC was, however, replaced by current the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) in 2011.
In 2021, the former jurist was named the chairperson of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Caretaker Committee which was established to oversee football activities in the country after the disbandment of Nick Mwendwa’s team.
Ringera also served in Taskforce on the Review of Power Purchase Agreements as a member among other presidential appointments.
In addition, Ringera is an accredited mediator of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of London.
He holds a Master’s (LL.M) and Bachelor’s (LL.B) degree in law from the University of Nairobi. Emeritus Justice Ringera also has a Diploma in Comparative and International Law of Human Rights from the International Institute of Comparative and International Law of Human Rights in France.
