  • Emma Too, a former model, came out refuting claims made by Citizen TV anchor Trevor Ombija after a clip went viral of him offering to soundproof a house in Kileleshwa to protect the occupants from noise pollution.

Through a series of social media statements on Wednesday, October 12, Emma denied claims that she wanted the Samaki Samaki restaurant shut down after missing out on a landscaping deal.

“Now, how do you soundproof a split-level house and not the actual club?! What will other residents do? Will they also soundproof the whole street?  Turn down the music and stop parking at my house,” she questioned.

Emma further shared recorded clips depicting how music from Samaki Samaki restaurant was causing noise pollution.

In one of the clips, which had attracted over 4,600 views on Twitter, she narrated how she struggled to sleep because of loud music from the entertainment joint.

She asked the Nairobi County government, led by Governor Johnson Sakaja to intervene.

“All I have ever asked her was ask your people to lower the music!” she pleaded.

Moreover, Emma called out other business owners in the area who had allegedly threatened her due to her stance.

Emma’s push to regulate entertainment joints in residential areas started in January when she called on city residents to lobby Nairobi county to enact laws to protect them from noise pollution.

    Trevor’s Claims

Following the uproar, the Citizen TV anchor issued a statement alleging that the house owner had staged a battle to have Samaki Samaki shut down over a business deal gone wrong. Ombija, however, did not mention Emma as the aggrieved resident in his statement.

“I have a neighbour who wanted us to shut down because I did not give her a landscaping job.”

“We reduced our volume completely all other neighbours were ok with our attempts, except her so I offered to go the extra mile of soundproofing as a last resort she still refused,” he stated.

This came after the newly elected Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai castigated the news anchor.

However, the Nairobi County government intervened by reinstating the licenses of the 43 clubs which were on the verge of being shut down.

Nairobi Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri ordered the club owners to adhere to the stipulated rules and that they should not interfere with the residents’ livelihoods.

“Our manifesto is to enable businesses to thrive but you must not infringe on residents’ rights.

“We have a duty and an obligation to ensure we create a conducive environment for businesses of all sizes to operate,” the Deputy County boss remarked.
