  • Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has dared Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi to prove his worth as a presidential candidate before seeking Mt. Kenya votes.

Speaking at a delegates forum organized by Mudavadi, Kiraitu challenged the presidential aspirant to use parliamentarians elected through his party to increase revenue allocated to the Mt. Kenya region.

“I want to challenge Mudavadi. If you are serious about uplifting the lives of Kenyans, why are you not using Savula and Malala to move to parliament to increase funds for the counties?

“Those are the things that we are talking about. Those things don’t have to wait until you are elected. Do this to show that you are a serious candidate who wants to lift the lives of our people,†Kiraitu stated.

He further challenged the ANC party leader and the parliamentarians in attendance to table a motion in parliament over the hiked fuel prices.

“If you are serious, don’t tell us about what you are going to do after 2022 August, I will be very happy if you said you will send your MPs to parliament over the hiked fuel prices,†Kiraitu stated.

The governor warned Mudavadi not to rely on endorsements stating that the region will only back candidates who appeal to Mt. Kenya voters with their track record.

“These are the tests we will use as Meru people to see if candidates are either serious or jokers,†Kiraitu stated.

On Saturday, September 17, Mudavadi began his two-day tour in Meru County to popularize his presidential bid.

While meeting delegates in the county, Musalia stated that the county was not receiving adequate funds given the population of the county.

“As we stand here, are the resources being allocated measure up to the population of Meru?†Mudavadi asked.

The ANC party leader further stated that his government would work to improve the miraa sector, which is relied on by many farmers in Meru.

“The issue of miraa farming is so dear to the people of Meru and my government will ensure new markets are found for the stimulant crop,†Mudavadi stated.
