  • Kenya won its first medal of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Monday, August 2.

Benjamin Kigen won Bronze medal for Kenya in the 3000 meters Steeplechase final on day eleven of the global event.

Kigen’s win for the country has finally put Kenya on the medal board with its first award at the 2020 Olympics. The sensational athlete clocked in at 8:11.45.

Soufiane El Bakkali, a Moroccan athlete, scooped the gold medal, with Ethiopia’s Girma Lamecha clinching the silver medal.

Despite Kenya’s breakthrough in clinching its first medal, the results, however, put a dent in Kenya’s historic wins at the event as for the first time the country has lost the 3000 meters gold medal since 1984.
