  • Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has threatened to ditch the Kenya Kwanza Alliance if Deputy President William Ruto fails to detail what Mt Kenya will gain from his administration.

Speaking at a rally on Thursday, May 12, the Tujibebe Wakenya party leader stated that he had called the DP over the matter after the contents of the Kenya Kwanza power-sharing deal were leaked to the media.

He insisted that he was not interested in any position but was concerned that the vote-rich region was not featured in the document.

Kabogo revealed that he held talks with Ruto in Dubai where he was promised that the region would get a fair share of the government and resources in Ruto’s government.

The former governor who joined Kenyan Kwanza this year stated that their exit from the faction would be felt even if they were a small party.

“I have seen the coalition agreement between UDA, Ford Kenya, and ANC. I held talks with Ruto in Dubai and he asked what I wanted. I told him that I did not wish to get any position for myself or my wife. The only thing I told him is that his government must ensure the Mt Kenya region gets its fair share of the government revenue.

“I have called him and challenged him to explain why they are sharing seats and the agreement has no mention of the interests of the Mt Kenya region. If he does not correct that, I will leave since the election is yet to be held – let him know it’s still early and people can change their minds,”  he stated.

In the Kenya Kwanza deal, Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula were promised 30 percent of Ruto’s government if they delivered 70 percent of the Western Kenya votes to Ruto.

Additionally, Mudavadi was promised a senior cabinet position, similar to that of a Prime Minister while Wetangula’s party was promised the Nation Assembly’s speakers position.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party on the other hand is set to produce the presidential candidate (Ruto) and his running mate.

Other Mt Kenya parties that belong to Kenya Kwanza include Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) of Moses Kuria, Democratic Party (DP) National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and The Service Party of Kenya (TSP) of Mwangi Kiunjuri.
