  • Over 100 delegates who accompanied Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Presidential aspirant Jimi Wanjigi to Siaya County, on Saturday, September 18, spent the night in the streets after their sponsor went missing.

The youth dubbed Fagia Yote team, alleged that the tycoon’s management deserted them and failed to facilitate their transport back home.

Most of the delegates who had been ferried from various Sub-counties across Siaya were forced to sleep outside buildings.

Others sought alternative shelter to shield themselves from the cold night.

“I don’t know how I will go back home because I don’t have adequate transport,†Lilian Okoth from Rarieda sub-county complained.

Wanjigi’s team did not address the allegations fronted by the youth who endorsed him to be ODM flagbearer, a seat he is contesting with party leader and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.

The billionaire, while addressing the delegates in Siaya, stated that he was the best leader to lead the country and represent the youth.

“It’s a full house in Siaya County! The future of the ODM Party is Bright. It is time for new leaders to take over the mantle,†Wanjigi announced.

Wanjigi commenced his Nyanza region tour on Thursday, September 16, visiting Homa Bay, Migori and Siaya counties.

However, chaos marred most of his campaign rallies, with Homa Bay and Migori in the spotlight. On Friday, September 17, he was pelted with stones by a mob in Migori County, who accused him of disrespecting ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“It is a sad day for democracy in this party. You may not like my message, but you must defend my right to say it…”

“I can assure you that there is no interference from outside of ODM in what happened. I also urge the security agencies to take up this matter,” Wanjigi lamented.

The incident was widely condemned by several politicians and citizens, with Deputy President William Ruto leading the line.
