  • A somber mood engulfed the lavish Lavington area, Nairobi, after an Iraqi national was shot dead in a robbery incident.

Media reports indicated that Mazin Hanna Matti was walking to his home after work at around 6:30 pm when he was approached by three gunmen.

Witnesses intimated to the police that the armed thugs demanded Matti to hand in his mobile phone and cash- to which the foreigner declined to oblige.

Upon resisting, a brief altercation ensued before one of the armed gunmen shot Matti in the right knee.

A nearby police officer manning a diplomatic residence responded to the incident before the gunmen sped off to the Kawangware area.

Reports revealed that Matti lost his life due to excessive bleeding after it took long before being taken to hospital. Matti was pronounced dead on arrival.

It’s not an everyday occurrence for robbery cases to happen in posh areas- however, the few cases are raising concerns.

Last year, three armed men staged a 30 minutes heist in the lavish Muthaiga area after they robbed city businessman, Harish Patel.

Police officers noted that the suspects carefully sneaked inside- ensuring that they did not draw any attention to themselves. Three workers and a security guard were found tied up and locked inside one of the rooms.

Detectives privy to the matter suspected that the incident might have been an inside job.

“So far we have not arrested anyone, we have, however, interrogated all the employees. We have also taken their mobile phone numbers for analysis to establish if they were in communication with the suspects,” Starehe Sub-County Police Commander Julius Kiragu disclosed at the time.
