  • King’ori Mwangi, the Assistant Inspector General of Police accused of injuring two pedestrians on Langata Road and fleeing the accident scene on Thursday, August 5, has come out to defend himself.

King’ori, who is attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, now accuses the pedestrians of causing confusion by ‘jumping’ into the road.
“The two pedestrians dashed across the road, catching me off-guard. Nevertheless, I tried as much as possible to slam the brakes to avert what would have been a fatal crash,†he told The Standard.

The senior cop says he was rushing a pregnant woman to the hospital when the accident happened.

He, however, denied reports that he was driving on the wrong side of the road, endangering the lives of other motorists as well as pedestrians.

Mwangi and the pregnant woman he was carrying were roughed by boda boda riders who had pursued them upon fleeing the scene of the accident. The mob accused him of driving on the wrong side of the road near Sunshine School in Langata.

A traffic officer who was on duty rescued him from the angry riders who had cornered and were assaulting him.

The victims were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KHN) by a good samaritan with reports indicating that they had suffered severe injuries.

So far, no charges have been preferred against the high-ranking law enforcement officer.
