From what I know is that most guys dont like being referred to as mama’s boys basically because it makes them look weak. Being associated with their mums somehow makes them feel girly but its not all men. Actually Sol Generation’s Bensoul describes himself as a mama’s boy because it makes him proud.

As youve ready heard – the guy grew up with just his mum after his dad walked out on them while still young. So, he grew up watching his mum hustle for their family and – it wasnt easy. Imagine the hours she put in to ensure her children lack nothing…her strength, her determination and sacrifice…wouldnt you also want to be associated with such a selfless person?

Anyway speaking during recent interview with Word Is, the 29 year old spoke about his relationship with his mum praisng her for not only being present but for her support. According to him, after he dropped Civil engineering for music – she stood by him and kept encouraging him to be the best he can.

Our mum is my everything that’s why I say I am a mama’s boy.

Adding;

She is the one who believes in me. I was to do civil engineering when I came to Nairobi. I tried it for like three years, and I was like this is not my thing.

Born to make music

Before he joined music, Bensoul says he had been studying Civil engineering a course he had interest in but for some reason – he always felt out of place. According to Bensoul, everytime he walked to class he would always feel depressed. His heart wasn’t there;

I used to be very depressed while I’m going to class then I see other guys rehearsing music.

This is because he grew up singing in the choir with his mum and dad; and deep down inside he knew music is what he wanted to venture into;

so I dropped it and started doing music.

Although it may look like he made the wrong choice…having his mum’s support keeps him going and growing as an artist because at the end of the day – he gets to make her proud. As the man of the house, he can now step up and do what his dad couldn’t. Provide.
