A police report now indicates that an expectant mother who was killed by her nephew had pleaded with the authorities not to jail him for an offence he had committed.
Speaking to the media, Trans Mara West Police Commander, Hamisi Gonzalla, disclosed that Emmanuel Siakati had been placed on a probational sentence for stealing a radio and utensils from his aunt.
Gonzalla noted that the suspect, who is a Standard Eight pupil, might have committed multiple homicides as an act of vengeance for the arrest.
“The suspect himself owned up to having carried out the heinous act. He did this all because of a grudge or some sort of revenge,” he stated.
The victim is said to have attacked the 35-year-old mother of two and her children on Sunday night, June 2. Neighbours revealed that they heard screams amid the heavy downpour only to find bodies dumped in a nearby maize farm.
Gonzalla stated that the victim succumbed to the multiple stab wounds while her children aged 10 and five were strangled by the assailant. The deceased’s husband called on the government to ensure that his loved ones get justice.
“It is very painful, I have lost my wife and children, where will I even start? I may not be in a position to make the decision on his fate, let the government decide,” he stated
Police have launched investigations into claims by neighbours that Siakati might have not acted alone. However, the area commander revealed that the suspect confessed that he solely committed the crime.
The bodies of the three were taken to Kilgoris Sub County hospital morgue, where a post mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Neighbours told the police that the suspect was not a first time offender. They have pleaded with police officers to beef up security in the area citing a spike in criminal activities.
“People cannot be under siege from these criminals to the extent that peace-loving citizens are fearing to step out of their houses at night. Do they want the villagers to relocate to town where there are police officers?” Samson Leteipa posed.
