President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday, March 15 addressed a press conference outside his Harambee House office on the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

He announced that two more cases of the dreaded Covid-19 had been confirmed in Kenya, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to three.

The two newly confirmed cases are individuals who came into contact with a 27-year-old Kenyan woman who landed in Nairobi from the United States on March 5, and was confirmed as the first Covid-19 case in the country on Friday, March 13.

Hawk-eyed citizens, however, noticed unusual things that took place at the press conference, ostensibly as part of precautionary measures taken to protect the president and senior government officials from the spread of the virus.

Uhuru arrived at Harambee House as usual with his convoy in tow, as several Cabinet Secretaries including Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Education CS George Magoha and Health CS Mutahi Kagwe awaited him.

Traditionally, the senior government officials line up to receive the President who shakes their hands, one by one.

At the press conference, however, officials who lined up to receive Uhuru outside Harambee House were acknowledged by a simple hand-gesture.

Uhuru clasped his hands together and shouted out his greetings as he walked past the officials into the building.

During the press conference, Uhuru was flanked on either side by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

The leaders stood a significant distance away from each other as they addressed journalists on measures taken to keep Kenyans safe from Covid-19.

In another unusual occurrence at the press conference, albeit unrelated to the Coronavirus pandemic, Uhuru arrived in a car whose license plate was clearly upside down.

The upside-down plate left many Kenyans puzzled on social media as they wondered which official was responsible for the confusing situation, or whether it was actually deliberate.
