  • Kenya Police FC, a football club in the first tier, is known for its banter, humour and viral short videos of its fans – mostly cops – dancing and cheering during matches.

The club recently promoted to the Kenya Premier League sits 10th on the log, an impressive feat for the minions. With 17 matches played, the law enforcers have 22 points after winning five matches, drawing seven and losing five.

Behind the success is Chris Mmbwanga Oguso, a disciplined cop who rose from being a junior officer to the team’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Oguso was posted to Nakuru Police Station as a constable, one the lowest ranks in the sector, after he joined the service.

His impressive skills and service delivery earned him a promotion and he was transferred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) unit.

At the DCI, he was deployed to different parts of the country including Machakos, Transmara East, and later their Headquarters in Nairobi.

Oguso earned his promotions over the years in the service attaining the ranks of corporal, sergeant, and inspector.

The versatile cop who holds a Master of Criminology and Social Order degree from the University of Nairobi (UoN) is now a chief inspector in the National Police Service.

He has also undergone intensive training in VIP protection, Initial and Advanced Analysis in security the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

“Oguso’s cutting-edge knowledge and skills both locally and internationally have placed him at the centre of high profile investigative cases in the country.

“But his passion for football earned him the CEO post of the Kenya Police FC that is playing in the FKF Premier League. He has been instrumental to the success of the police football team,” NPS stated.

His appointment as CEO pushed the team to be promoted to country’s top league. Under his watch, Kenya Police has also acquired talented footballers such as Musa Mohammed, Duncan Otieno, the former Gor Mahia captain Harun Shakava, Clifton Miheso and even Francis Kahata who played for Tanzanian side Simba FC.

“Oguso is determined and focused in guiding the Kenya Police Football Club to win the FKF Premier League title and represent Kenya in the CAF Continental Championships. He also intends to establish a Women Football Team to participate in the Women’s Premier League,” NPS added.

His passion for football stated at a very early age. He made his first debut in professional football playing for a Mombasa based club, Dundee United which he joined after failing to secure funds to join university.

The highly trained detective also featured in some games and tournaments. In the disciplined service, he played for Nakuru Police Football club as a forward.

Despite being the CEO of the Kenya Police soccer team, Oguso also sponsors annual soccer tournaments in Vihiga county.

“Chris Oguso for his transformative and proactive policing initiatives geared towards promoting positive relationship between police and the public. He is a shining example and an inspiration to Kenya Police office footballers, considering the influence local football managers have on sports,” NPS described him.
