Muranga governor Mwangi wa Iria at a past media briefing. File
There was a load of drama at the Senate Public Accounts Committee hearing of Muranga Governor Mwangi wa Iria.
The governor went on a verbal offensive against his Senator Irungu Kang’ata.¬†
Wa Iria accused the Senator of abandoning his people and using their plight for political mileage.
Wa Iria was appearing before the Moses Kajwang-led committee to answer for county budget queries before the two political nemesis locked horns.
The senator blamed Wa Iria’s administration for the predicament of milk farmers in the county.¬†
The questions touched a nerve on the governor who then launched a war of words at his senator.
“I did not come for that issue and don’t pretend to be speaking on behalf of milk farmers in Murang’a because they know what is happening, you are totally out of order,” the governor stated.
Committee chairman Moses Kajwang’¬†had a hard time trying to calm the two raging at each other.¬†
He eventually managed to control¬†the temperatures in the room as he defended Kang’ata stating it was his mandate to ask questions.
The wisdom of Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri prevailed on both senator and governor as he explained to the county boss that Muranga receives one of the highest allocations in the country and accountability is a must.
He ruled Wa Iria out of order before telling them to settle their squabbles on the side away from the Senate.
“Governor you are out of order, you will go and sort out Murang’a issues in Murang’a and not in the Senate, we are here for serious business,” Kajwang’¬†directed.
Kenyans witnessed a similar outburst in 2018 when the two went on a verbal tirade against each other after corruption watchdog EACC declared Muranga one of the most corrupt counties.
