Police reports seen by kenyagist.com alleged that the officer identified as David Kurgat collapsed and died on his way home.
Kurgat had visited the girlfriend who resided 1 kilometre North West of Olenguruone Police Station in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County.
It was reported that the incident occurred 43 minutes past midnight.
“Police are holding the lady because his friend passed away en route from her house,” OB No 03/24/07/2021 filed at the station read.
Detectives assigned to the case visited the scene where the officer died and others conducted forensics at the girlfriend’s house.
Kurgat’s body was ferried to Olenguruone Sub- County Morgue pending an autopsy.
Investigators detailed that the lady would assist in investigations, but declined to disclose whether she was being treated as a prime suspect or a witness.
DCI detectives from Nairobi were expected to receive a preliminary report after files were sent to their offices.
The police demise comes at a backdrop of increased murders and deaths of officers in the National Police Service.
DCI sleuths are investigating several suicide and assassination cases reported in 2021. The latest case was corporal Caroline Kangogo’s alleged suicide. Kangogo reportedly shot dead police constable John Ogweno, weeks before she took her own life.
