  • Former National Treasurer at Deputy President William Ruto’s  United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Omingo Magara has officially joined the ruling Jubilee party.

Magara was on Monday, March 21 received by secretary general and Ndaragua member of Parliament Jeremiah Kioni at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi. Kioni welcomed Magara to the party, crowning him a Jubilee-party branded cap.

“As an indication of clarity of mind on what he has decided to do, I want to take this opportunity to dawn Magara with this cap as a sign that he has agreed to work with Jubilee party.  I want to thank you for making this decision and we want to officially welcome you to the party,” the Jubilee party SG stated.

Kioni gave the ex-UDA official the blessing to contest for any elective seat under the Jubilee party ticket. On his part, Magara explained that he decided to join the party led by President Uhuru Kenyatta after consulting the people of Kisii.

“I was intentionally engaged in consultations with a view of listening to a cross-section of Kenyans, especially Kisii County on how they want to move forward as a people. The voice of my people has given me no alternative but to join the Jubilee party,” he declared.

The former MP, who declared interest in contesting for the Kisii County gubernatorial seat, claimed that the people advised him to join the Azimio la Umoja, whose presidential candidate is former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“The message has been as clear as the blue sky, and our people feel more valued and represented under the Azimio la Umoja movement under Jubilee where I’ll be serving the aspirations of my people,” he added.

Furthermore, Magara noted that he will set out to campaign for Odinga and popularize the message of unity in Kisii County and across the country.

On February 28, the veteran politician caused a political stir when he tendered his resignation and quit UDA. He attributed his exit from the party to what he claimed was a lack of democracy.

“For a long time, I have harboured an ambition to be the Kisii County Governor through the UDA party where I was also the national treasurer. However,  there have since been developments that render my candidature through the UDA Party impossible.

“After considerable reflections and consultations with my people in Kisii County, national leaders, family and friends, my political future and ambitions cannot be sufficiently addressed by the UDA party, I therefore immediately resign as a party member and as a treasurer,†Magara stated.
