The County Government of Nakuru on Tuesday, February 11 declared an extra holiday to celebrate the life of the late president Daniel arap Moi.

In a letter signed by the county’s Director of Communications Beatrice Obwocha, February 12, was declared as a holiday for all the non-essential county staff.

“County Government of Nakuru has granted all workers in non-essential services a leave of duty on February 12, 2020, in honour of the late former President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi,” reads the letter in part.

The late president’s home county decided to take an extra day off to allow the various workers to be able to pay their final respects to the recently departed.

Moi’s Kabarak home was a beehive of activities on February 8,  as workers prepared for his burial set for Wednesday, February 12.

Various contractors and a team from the National Youth Service were among those carrying out various works at the home located in Nakuru County.

On Tuesday, February 11, an inter-denominational requiem mass was held at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

The latest move by the County Government of Nakuru mirrors a similar declaration made by Nandi County Senator Stephen Sang.

Sang also declared Wednesday as a holiday for all county workers in honour of the late former president.

Speaking from his office in Nandi, the senator went on to convey his message of condolence, on behalf of the county, to the former president’s family, whom he eulogised as a firm and dedicated leader.
