Speaking in Machakos town, DP Ruto announced that he had made plans with Elizabeth Mueni, a maize hawker, to take back her child to school who had dropped out after class eight due to lack of fees.
DP Ruto announced that she had already instructed Mueni to make proper arrangements and that he was going to ensure her child goes back to school.
DP Ruto also revealed that during their meeting, Mueni decried of having debts which he offered to help her settle them.
To uplift other traders, Mueni convinced DP Ruto to organize a meeting with local business people in Machakos.
During the meeting, DP Ruto said his focus was how to improve the lives of the majority of Kenyans who were hustling to put something on the table.
“A meeting was organized and we meet. She told me she does business, she told me what her stock was worth, she said she has a loan. She said she has a child who finished class eight but she could not raise her school fees. I told her to bring that child so that we can take her back to school,” Ruto stated.
Present were MPs Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East) and Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira).
Mueni sold maize to Ruto at a roadside stall during one of the DP’s previous visits to Machakos, forging a relationship afterwards.
On Friday, July 9, 2021, DP Ruto met Mueni at his Karen residence accompanied by Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya (Mwala) Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town).
“It was such a pleasure meeting Elizabeth again. We agreed to keep talking, and that both of us will keep fighting for her dream to come true.”
“She visited me today and shared her story; a story of persistence, hard work and devotion. Mama Mueni’s dream is to give her two children a different life- a good life,” Ruto remarked after the meeting.
