  • Jacqueline Njoroge-Chokera, a deputy medical superintendent at Thika Level 5 Hospital who succumbed to Covid-19, has been immortalised at her former workplace.

Ms Njoroge, whose burial took place on Friday, November 20, was eulogised as a dedicated frontline worker and a hard worker.

“In memory of Jacqueline’s good work, the County will name one ward at Thika Level 5 after her,” reads a statement by the Department of Health Services Kiambu County.

Speaking during the burial ceremony, Kiambu Governor James Nyoro joined Jacqueline’s family in eulogising the doctor whom she described as a brilliant young doctor whose prowess and kindness saw her rise through the ranks fast.

The governor also noted that the county had enough protective gear for frontline workers.

Some of the officials present included; Chief Officer Health  Dr. Patrick Nyaga, CEC Education Mary Kamau, Chief of Staff Gibson Mburu, officials from Equity Group, KU Teaching and Referral Hospital, KMPDU, KPA, Kenya Power, doctors, and the general public.

The doctor contracted the disease while helping patients who had been infected.

Her friends described her as a kind-hearted and ambitious individual, who was always willing to help.

She is survived by two children Angel and Adrian and her husband Joshua Chokera.

Since last week, the country has lost 10 medics to the virus.

On Saturday, November 21, kenyagist.com reported that  Dr Nira Patel, a dentist, and Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Renal Unit boss Dr. Anthony Jude Were Omollo, succumbed to the virus.

Doctors and healthcare workers have decried neglect by the government and have since requested an audience with President Uhuru Kenyatta to deliberate on the way forward regarding the welfare of frontline healthcare workers.
