Former Prime Minister has revealed that President-elect William Ruto invited him to his inauguration that will happen at the Kasarani Stadium.
In a statement on Monday, September 12, Raila indicated that he got the phone call from his main competitor in the just concluded polls last evening.
Additionally, he stated that he got an invitation card consequent to the call adding that he will not attend the inauguration ceremony.
The ODM boss explained that he was out of the country even though he stated that he had other concerns.
Further, Raila stated that he would address his concerns with other Azimio la Umoja principals when he returns to the country.
In particular, he noted that he will address concerns regarding the conduct of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) during the August 9 polls.
“First, I believe that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the body in charge of our elections, did not conduct a free and fair election.
“Secondly, I believe that the ruling of the Supreme Court was not based on the facts and the law, even though we accepted it,” read the statement in part.
According to the former Prime Minister, the path his coalition would take after he returns will enhance the electoral process in the country and the independence of other institutions.
“For these reasons, the outcome of the election remains indeterminate. Once I return to the country, I will, jointly with Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leaders, announce our next steps as we seek to deepen and strengthen our democracy.”
We can only do so if we reform and transform the key institutions that are charged with protecting and advancing our democracy,” read the statement in part.
Ruto is set to be sworn in today, August 13 at the Kasarani Stadium and is scheduled to take oath of office between 10 and noon.
Odinga contested Ruto’s win, before the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the outcome of August 9 polls.
