Details Emerge on Suicide Note Left By Nation Journalist

  • Details have emerged on the suicide note left by the veteran Nation Media Group journalist who was found dead on Thursday, February 17 at his home in Lulonda village, Navakholo constituency, Kakamega County.

The deceased is reported to have penned an emotional letter detailing his financial struggles and wedlock challenges before he decided to end his life.

The note reportedly further revealed that the long-serving Kakamega correspondent for Nation was mentally unstable and suffering from intestinal cancer which pushed him to take his life.

His body was found in his house with a suicide note that captured the struggles he had gone through.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kakamega Referral Hospital Mortuary as law enforcement officers launched investigations to get to the bottom of the cause of his death.

Navakholo Sub-County OCPD, Richard Omanga confirmed the incident, saying investigations were ongoing regarding the incident.

His brother speaking to the media revealed that the journalist appeared disturbed despite being a reserved person.

“He was reserved, liked doing his job privately in his house as he rarely interacted with people,†said Alfred Maero.

The veteran correspondent was eulogised by his colleagues including Nation Media Group Sports Managing Editor, Elias Makori, who described the deceased as principled and resilient.

â€œCommitted and resilient journalist who was very dedicated in his work. I’ve worked with Maero for many years. He always did his work diligently despite the challenges he faced,” Makori stated.

He added, “It’s unfortunate he left us just as we were restructuring Sports Desk operations in which he would have played a key role as a regional contributor. May God comfort his family and friends.”
