Taking to social media on Wednesday, November 17, Oliech questioned Amina’s logic that informed the appointment of the Caretaker Committee and the Secretariat to run the affairs of FKF on a temporary basis.
The former Harambee Stars skipper wondered why the CS did not appoint former players to the committee in order to bring back lost glory to the football industry.
“Let it be known that it’s not too late to engage former players and we are willing to uplift our football to the former glory that it once had. We have the passion, knowledge and experience to be part of the committee. Football is us. The choice is yours madam CS, the fans and footballers have suffered enough,” he stated.
He also touched on the recent statement made by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) which had demanded that the Sports Ministry either reinstates all suspended FKF officials or face consequences.
According to Oliech, FIFA was supposed to be the country’s saviour but ended up complicating the situation. He also noted that the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which supported FIFA’s statement, did not make things any easier.
Oliech wondered whether CS Amina was willing to put the country in jeopardy and risk a ban that would otherwise see Kenya not participate in any events for a stipulated period.
“In the recent past the football managing body in Kenya has been through rough times, with the appointment of the of the committee by the sports Cs made it even worse. Hoping that FIFA would rescue us, it made things even harder to resuscitate the already worse situation.”
“Neither did CAF, however, they had their options ready. Should the CS accommodate them in the committee? That’s the million dollar question that lay in the desk of madam CS. Do we need a ban or Not?” Oliech posed.
A majority of Kenyans felt that a number of qualified persons were left out of the FKF Caretaker Committee with those appointed not deserving the positions.
Among the names fronted by netizens for appointment include that of NTV host and Sports guru, Carol Radull. She, however, explained that she was indeed approached by the Ministry officials but her inquisitiveness about the post ultimately cost her the position.
The controversy surrounding the suspended FKF boss Nick Mwendwa and the football fraternity has been on the limelight in the recent past. Mwendwa, who is facing graft charges, was arrested on Friday, November 12, in order to answer the stipulated charges.
After a court ruling delivered on Wednesday, November 17, the prosecution team was given seven days in order to prosecute Mwendwa or else close the graft case.
