DCI Pounces on Gang Drugging Revellers in Hotel

  • Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday, December 27, nabbed a gang that has been drugging revellers at a hotel in Kiambu county.

    Acting on a tip-off from members fo the public, the detectives lay in wait for the five con suspects who had been stealing from unsuspecting members of the public in Ruiru area.

    “Mobile phones and several bottles bearing labels of various brands of alcohol, and which are believed to contain stupefying substances were also confiscated from the five, aged between 24 and 30 years,” the DCI noted.

    The seized items will be subjected to forensic analysis to determine their content, as further investigations continue to establish the suspects’ modes of operation.

    The police have warned revellers to be careful when enjoying the festive season.

    The gangs usually lure unsuspecting people by spiking their drinks. In a previous interview, Ruiru police boss noted that spiking of drinks was rampant in some clubs along the Eastern Bypass and Ruiru town.

    He added that the gang of women who could be operating in cohorts with men change their operations to avoid being detected.

    The most common drugs used is Stilnox which retails at Ksh480 and its generic-Nirest or Zolpidem retails at between Ksh10 and Ksh20 per tablet.

    The anti-narcotic police has on several occasions warned revellers to be alert when enjoying themselves in major towns.

    In a separate incident on Sunday, December 27, Kenya Wildlife Service security personnel arrested six suspects found in illegal possession of five boxes full of pangolin scales.

    The security team from KWS headquarters apprehended the suspects who were driving in two vehicles along Mombasa road.

    The boxes containing the pangolin scales were stuffed in one of the vehicles while the suspects distributed themselves in either of the two motor vehicles.

    The vehicle loaded with the contraband belongs to a clearing and forwarding agent based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
