  • Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers on Thursday arrested a notorious woman suspected of orchestrating numerous highway robberies.

40-year-old Sally Njeri was nabbed in Mai Mahiu after she was linked to a recent highway robbery.

The investigations agency also revealed that intelligence reports indicated that Ms Njeri was not alone but rather part of a dangerous gang promising to ensure that all guilty parties would be brought to book.

“Detectives investigating the matter are looking for the other suspects who are considered armed & dangerous to face Justice” stated an excerpt of their tweet.

Ms Njeri was connected to a robbery that had targeted a truck ferrying goods on transit from Mombasa to Kisumu.

DCI officials revealed that goods worth millions of shillings, as well as toxic chemicals, formed the bulk of the items recovered following Ms Njeri’s arrest.

The officers were also able to recover the stolen truck, going on to reveal that the suspect had drugged the truck’s driver during the heist in order to incapacitate him.

Ms Njeri’s arrest comes barely a day since the DCI seized half a tonne of miraa at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) packaged in 52 bags concealed as tea packets.

Just a few days prior, there was drama at a roadblock along the Nairobi-Namanga highway when a confrontation ensued between DCI officers and regular police units after a huge consignment of contraband ethanol was busted in the hands of the unidentified DCI officers.

DCI boss George Kinoti has since come out and declared that he had ordered the covert operation and that he was not obligated to disclose such information to other police commanders as by the law.
