CS Sicily Kariuki Resigns From Cabinet

  • Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki, has resigned.

    CS Kariuki announced her resignation on Wednesday, February 9. She is eyeing the Nyandarua gubernatorial seat that is currently held by former Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia.

    The CS, who is a very close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, is eyeing the ruling Jubilee Party ticket.

    Addressing the press, Kariuki stated that she will be taking her 30 years of experience to serve Nyandarua County and help the residents realize its potential.

    “This follows months of listening to the people of Nyandarua who have come to trust me, my concern for them, my vision, my commitment and my dedication and capability to accelerate development in Nyandarua,” CS Kariuki stated.

    “I am committed as I will demonstrate in days to come to work with like-minded leaders in the county of Nyandarua and the national government to ensure peace and development that Nyandarua yarns for is realized,” she added.

    Ms Kariuki wished her colleagues at the Water and Sanitation Ministry well as she announce her resignation. She also maintained that she will not be leaving Jubilee Party after getting reassurance from President Kenyatta.

    The CS promised to solve the insecurity issues in Nyandaru and work to solve the power struggles between the county executive and the county assembly, which she noted had affected the development agenda in the county.

    Her resignation came at the same time when the Director of Youth and Development in the Office of the President, Walter Mong’are, popularly known as Nyambane, announced he had also stepped aside to contest for an undisclosed political seat.

    Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda, Kiema Kilonzo, also announced his resignation after three years of service to contest in the Kitui Gubernatorial race.

    Agriculture and Food Authority(AFA) director, Kello Harsama also announced his resignation to contest for the Marsabit Gubernatorial seat.

    “I wish to thank the Government of Kenya for offering me an opportunity to serve as a distinguished civil servant for twenty-seven years,†he stated in his letter to Agriculture CS Peter Munya.
