Covid-19 Positivity Rate Drops, 111 People Test Positive

  • Kenya recorded 111 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours. The cases were reported from a sample size of 1,948 tested on Monday, May 24,

    The positivity rate is now at 5.7% while the total confirmed cases now stands at 168,543.

    Nairobi county registered the highest number of cases 52, followed by Machakos and Kisii counties with 11 and 9 respectively. 

    At the same time, 142 patients recovered from Covid-19. 137 from home-based care, and five from the various hospitals around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 114,679. 

    83,353 recoveries are from home-based care and isolation program, while 31,326 are from various health facilities.

    Regrettably, 14 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the last month. Total fatalities now stand at 3,073. 

    Currently, there are 1,086 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,770 are on home-based isolation and care. 

    121 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 25 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 68 on supplemental oxygen. 28 patients are on observation.

    Another 86 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 79 of them in the general wards and seven in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

    As of today, a total of 954,515 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 countrywide. Of these 289,900 are aged 58 years and above, health workers 164,053, teachers 150,303, security officers 80,718 and others are 269,541.

    Today, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe held talks with KEMSA Officials noting that the government is in communication with vaccine manufacturers. The intend is to become self-sufficient in its vaccine needs.
