Cop Shot Dead, Colleagues Missing After Raid on Police Camp

  • A police officer was shot dead in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, February 9, and three others went missing following a raid at their camp.

A police report seen by kenyagist.com indicated that the thugs, believed to be cattle rustlers from Pokot, stormed the Mlima Jangili Camp at 12:30 a.m. and opened fire.

One officer was shot in the stomach and succumbed to the injuries while the other was shot in the leg and is receiving treatment at Nyahururu Referral Hospital.

The other three officers escaped to different directions after the attack and they are yet to be accounted for.

“At around 0030hrs and reported by the in charge Mlima Jangili Operation Camp that the camp had been attacked by people suspected to be Pokot raiders.

“During the incident, (one of the officers)from Nyandarua North was shot on the stomach and succumbed to the injuries and (another one) from Mirangine subcounty was shot on the right leg above the knee,” read the statement in part.

The two were initially transferred to Ndindika Sub-county Hospital where one of them was pronounced dead  while the other was moved to the referral hospital.

“The whereabouts of the rest of the officers is not known since it’s believed that during the attack, the officers ran into different directions,” added the report.

Police have launched a search for the missing officers.

This comes just months after an officer, in mid-December 2021, attempted to kill his colleague three times at the same camp.

Their altercation began at Ng’arua police station in Laikipa County where the officer threatened to shoot his colleague before the fallout escalated to the camp.

The enraged officer rushed to get his G3 riffle during the altercation but other officers intercepted. The gun  with a magazine of 19 rounds of ammunition was then confiscated to allow investigations into the incident.
