  • The County Government of Nairobi has announced the partial closure of a busy city avenue for planned construction.

Through a notice on the local dailies, the county alerted motorist about intended partial closure of Luthuli Avenue from Saturday, May 18, to Thursday, May 30, 2019.

The partial closure of Luthuli avenue will allow construction for the road to be converted into a one-way street.

The county government has partnered with UN-Habitat on the project.

The transformation is in line with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s manifesto towards regenerating the city.

The choice of the street was informed by a study done by JICA which highlighted Luthuli Avenue as one of the roads that can be made vibrant to improve mobility, safety and accessibility.

Stakeholder engagements have been ongoing since November 2018.

The county government has asked motorists to fully cooperate with traffic marshalls who will be advising on the usage of the street during the partial closure.

City hall also regrets any inconvenience caused by the construction works and road closure.

Luthuli Avenue has heavy vehicle as well as human traffic and is known to be the electronics hub of the city.
