Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has made a passionate plea to President Uhuru Kenyatta regarding the ferry tragedy that occurred on Sunday, September 29.
In a 45 seconds video recorded in her office, the MP pleaded with the president to visit Mombasa residents and condole with them.
“I urge the president not to wait for Mashuja day to visit Mombasa residents, if he could just come and condole with the Mombasa residents during this trying time, I will sincerely appreciate,” she stated.
The vocal MP noted that the president would help solve the issue once he visited the area.
Ms Jumwa also stated that it was embarrassing that the Kenya Navy, coast guards and Kenya Ferry Services had not retrieved the bodies so far.
She further condoled with the family and friends of Maruiam Kigenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu who lost their lives in the tragedy.
Their vehicle plunged into the Indian Ocean after sliding off a ferry at the Likoni channel.
According to the report, the vehicle, a Toyota Isis was the last to board the MV Harambee Ferry Vessel from the mainland.
The car slid off when the ferry was midstream and plunged into the Indian Ocean waters.
