  • Police are investigating the circumstances under which Baringo based radio presenter Geoffrey Kinui was abducted by unrecognized people on Monday, August 23, and dumped in Lodwar.

Geoffrey, who works as a sports presenter for Alpha Radio, told authorities that as he came home from Kabarnet town on Monday night, he was followed to his house by two men and one woman who were armed with AK-47 rifles.

He had been in town to watch an EPL match and when he got to the house, he decided to watch a movie. A few moments later, the three walked in.

The 27-year-old added that the three said they were officers from the DCI and wanted him to go with them to the police station.

Not knowing what crime he had committed, Geoffrey told them he wanted to confirm with the deputy OCS whether there was anything wrong he had done but they could not let him.

“They didn’t want me to confirm from the area Deputy OCS Inspector Maiyo if I had committed an offence,†he explained.

“At the gate, I was bundled into a waiting vehicle, a white Toyota Harrier, that didn’t have a registration number,†the presenter recalled.

He told journalists that after about 1km from his gate, the car stopped and the kidnappers started questioning him about knowing certain politicians and campaigning for them.

“When I told them no, they assaulted me and forced me to drink a liquid that was laced with something, and then I lost consciousness. I woke up in an unfamiliar environment at 8 pm.†Geoffrey narrated.

The journalist noted that at first, he thought he was in Marigat because he spotted a certain familiar shrub.

Two men, however, came to help him out of the car, and after walking for about 20metres, he realized he had been dumped next to Safari Park in Kanam Kemer Estate in Lodwar.

Geoffrey says that he was so shocked, and he decided to call his boss Sam Roberts after the two helped him with their phones. He had actually been robbed of his two phones and Ksh 7000.

His boss connected him with two local journalists based in Lodwar who took him to hospital.

He could not stop vomiting because of the liquid he had been forced to take. Doctors found no serious damage to his organs, but advised him to seek further medical attention.

The DCI is now investigating the case after Turkana County Criminal Officer confirmed the abduction.
