The Kenyan government has firmly responded to the arrest of four police officers by the Ugandan army.

Hours after the diplomatic incident, the Kenyan authorities on Tuesday arrested 53 Ugandan illegal immigrants in Busia.

The whereabouts of the three arrested officers, who were also abducted together with four Kenyan fishermen,  remain unknown.

The two incidents appear to pose a threat to the long-standing diplomatic relations between Kenya and Uganda.

Last week, Kenya arrested 109 Tanzanians over accusations of illegal fishing in Kenya’s territorial waters in Shimoni, Kwale County.
