Nairobi governor Mike Sonko’s career could come to an end following recent developments in the political scene.

Reports indicate that the civil society, with the blessings of a section of influential politicians are planning to petition the county assembly to impeach Sonko over his poor performance.

Sonko found himself in unfriendly territory after he fell out with several high ranking Jubilee party officials and PS.

According to Sonko, the individuals are keen on undermining him and having a say on the operations at City Hal, something which the governor is against.

Media reports indicate that outside forces may have played a role in the resignation of Polycarp Igathe as Sonko’s deputy.

Against the wishes of many Jubilee politicians, the governor nominated lawyer Miguna Miguna for vetting and consideration to be his deputy.

The nomination caused a storm and was met with resistance with a section of politicians vowing to thwart Miguna’s nomination.

However, the battle to oust Sonko will be a bruising one after Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja vowed to do everything possible to save Sonko’s political career.

There are some people who want to derail the plans of the Governor to transform Nairobi but the impeachment will not go anywhere. I will ensure it dies immediately it reaches the Senate,” Sakaja said.

The Senator termed the move blackmail aimed at derailing Sonko’s plans to transform the county, adding that they will fail should it be tabled in the Senate where he sits.

Sakaja who was speaking at AIC church in Langata on Sunday urged Sonko to focus on delivering services, offering to take up his political battles should the plans to impeach Sonko be tabled in the Senate.
