Taita Taveta County Governor Granton Samboja has been impeached by the Taita Taveta County Assembly over alleged gross misconduct.
In August, Members of the County Assembly threatened to impeach Samboja for ignoring their efforts to reconcile with him after disagreeing over the budget.
Governor Samboja and the MCAs have been involved in a never ending war that has had a huge impact on the operations of the Taita Taveta County. The row between the two factions has seen the County fail to adopt the 2019-20 budget with Samboja declining to approve the budget.
In July, Samboja, a first term as the governor, petitioned President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve the county government over what he termed as harassment from the Members of the County Assembly.
Samboja’s impeachment comes just days after he openly disagreed with DP William Ruto accusing the Country’s second in command for interfering with Operations in his County.
“We respect the Deputy President but he must respect us. That is why since I began a campaign to dissolve the county government, I have not stepped into his office. We have the formula to resolve our issues, our petition will be taken to the President, and not Ruto. What the President will say is what we will follow,” he stated.
According to Ruto, the stalemate at Taita Taveta County could be resolved without the governor having to go from office to office in Nairobi.
“The solution of problems facing Taita Taveta County cannot be solved by moving from one office to another in Nairobi. They can be solved here at the grassroots if you put aside your differences and work together,” Said Ruto.
Well, the shocker has now fell on Governor Samboja who becomes the second to get impeached after Embu’s Martin Wambora who would later survive the onslaught.
