The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has raided the residences of two senior officials of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).

The two are persons of interest in ongoing EACC investigations into the construction of multi-million roads under KeRRA.

The Commission is investigating the officials over alleged accumulation of unexplained wealth, conflict of interest, receipt of kickbacks from contractors and embezzlement of public funds through procurement fraud in road construction and maintenance.

On Thursday, EACC  Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said the commission’s detectives raided the homes of one of the officials in the Coast region.

He said the raid came a week after conducting a similar operation in the residences of another official in the Mt Kenya region.

“The search operations have yielded crucial evidentiary material that will aid investigations towards the intended proceedings for forfeiture of unexplained wealth as well as prosecution recommendations,” Ngumbi said

One of the two officials is said to have illegally received a total of Sh311,125,109.90 from KeRRA between FY 2016/17 and FY 2022/23.

The other one is accused of  Conflict of interest, abuse of office and embezzlement of public funds amounting to  Sh108,501,993 while trading with his employer, the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) using proxy companies.

Vide a letter dated  July 10, 2024, the EACC made a recommendation to the DPP to charge the one accused of embezzling Sh108,501,993.
