Govt Launches Competition With Rewards of up to Ksh 300K; How to Participate

  • The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Arts and Sports, on Friday, February 17, announced that it was accepting submissions for the ‘TalantaHela’ logo competition. 

    In addition, The ministry called on creatives to share their designs, issuing a deadline of Tuesday, February 21 at 11:00 PM for the submissions.

    Prices unveiled for the winners included a cash price of Ksh300,000 for the winner, Ksh200,000 for the first runner-up, and Ksh100,000 for the second runner-up.

    “The council has been unveiled, and committees unleashed. What remains is a logo to represent our identity.

    “In the spirit of monetising talent, we invite logo submissions, with the top three winners receiving cash prizes,” the announcement read in part.

    Further issuing instructions for the application process, the ministry stated that the entries were to be submitted in JPEG or PDF format through the Kenyan culture website talantahelalogo(at)kenyaculturalcentre(dot)go(dot)ke

    Moreover, the ministry stated the government of Kenya would copyright the first three logos. 

    The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts, Ababu Namwamba, responded to the announcement reiterating that the initiative intended to empower creatives by enabling them to make money from their work.

    “The TalantaHela initiative seeks to monetise talents and transform sports and creatives into a mega-industry. Your talent must pay you well. This thrilling journey is about to take off. Do not be left behind,” Namwamba stated.

    Earlier in a Gazette Notice dated Friday, February 10, Namwamba appointed 11 individuals serving under the TalantaHela council to formulate policies that would actualise the initiative’s agenda. 

    Some committee members appointed included digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi, journalist Carol Radull, Olympic champion Julius Yego, Churchill Show host, Daniel Ndambuki, and Azziad Nasenya.
