  • The Canadian Embassy warned Kenyans of a new scheme targeting job seekers planning to immigrate to the North American country.

In a notice dated Wednesday, February 15, the Embassy noted that Kenyans seeking employment fall for schemes promising them well-paying jobs.

The syndicate also reportedly guarantees them entry into the country hustle-free.

Victims also received unsolicited invitation letters from the syndicate promising them lucrative deals in Canada.

To help Kenyans evade the scheme, Canada advised applicants and job seekers not to share personal information and financial statements.

The embassy further informed Kenyans that visa, passport and other application processes follow stipulated guidelines.

“If you have not submitted an immigration or resettlement application, you should not receive messages about one,” the Embassy advised.

Without revealing the number of Kenyans scammed in the process, Canada in Kenya observed that the trend had picked up on various social media platforms.

Scammers targeted unsuspecting Kenyans with pending immigration applications and those applying for various vacancies through unapproved jobsites.

“We observe certain fraud trends concerning immigration to Canada circulating on the web. Learn with us how to recognise red flags,” the Embassy stated.

“Do not fall victim to immigration scams,” Canada in Kenya further warned.

The online scam was exposed days after Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua revealed plans to secure jobs for Kenyans in Canada.

Mutua made the announcement after meeting Canadian deputy ambassador to Kenya Warren Mucci on Saturday, February 11, in Kwale.

“I will be engaging the Government of Canada later this year by sitting down with my counterpart to agree on the number of jobs Kenyans will get so that students studying here can apply for jobs in Canada,” Mutua stated.
