  • Global social media platform, Twitter, on Tuesday, December 13, changed the blue verification tick of select accounts to yellow.

The move left a section of social media users wondering about the changes even as some accounts maintained the blue tick.

However, Twitter explained the changes were effected to differentiate business enterprises from personality accounts.

By selecting the yellow tick, the social networking platform explained that the account belonged to corporate bodies.

“This account is verified because it’s an official business on Twitter,” read the statement in part.

The colour changes were not only effected in Kenya but also carried out all over the world with a number of media and sports outlets also included.

Some of the renowned accounts which were changed to yellow include, Sportify Africa, Sky Sports News and World Athletics among others.

These colour changes were part of the reforms, Tesla owner – Elon Musk indicated that he would undertake after acquiring the platform.

At the time, Musk announced that the company would take a different approach to verify accounts for government agencies.

“There will be gold checks for companies, grey checks for governments, and blue for individuals (celebrities or not). Painful, but necessary,” Musk

“Individuals can have a secondary tiny logo to show they belong to an organisation if verified as such by that organisation,” he announced then.

Some other changes expected in the coming months are the Ksh970 monthly payment for verification. The move was halted after concerns were raised by online users.

Musk is yet to announce when the payment will be rolled out.
