The 33-year-old was arrested on the evening of December 11, at Makongeni in Nairobi after being baited by detectives.

The suspect had been identified through CCTV camera on December 9, but it took 48 hours of security multi-agency coordination to nab him.

Detectives, in a statement, announced that the suspect has been involved in criminal activities before.

“The suspected gang leader has previously served 6 years behind bars for a similar offence,” DCI’s statement read in part.

Once arrested, the suspected gang cooperated with the DCI and revealed his hideout.

“He took detectives to his house in Wangige, Kiambu County, where crucial exhibits related to various robbery incidents were recovered and documented,” the DCI narrated.

DCI listed two high profile robberies that the suspect has been actively involved in.

“The ex-convict together with two accomplices on a numberless motorbike accosted a Greek national in Kilimani and violently took away a rucksack that he was carrying.”

“One of them then whipped out a pistol and shot him once and he later succumbed to the gunshot injury at Nairobi Women’s hospital,” DCI announced.

He is also believed to have been part of four gang-members who robbed four Dutch tourists and robbed them of their mobile phones, cash and jewelries.

The DCI had earlier arrested one of the his accomplices and launched a manhut for others who escaped police dragnet.
